Time Dependent Settlement of Tire Shreds

Time dependent
settlement was measured for three types of tire shreds with maximum size ranging
from 1.5 to 3-in. A 14-ft thick fill
was loaded with a surcharge of 750 psf. Figure 1 shows the time
dependent vertical strain for the tire shreds in this project. Significant time dependent settlement
occurred for two months after the surcharge was placed. During these two
months there was about 2% vertical strain, which amounted to over 3 inches of
settlement.
